Varsity girls take on Old Brickyard

The Wakeland Girls golf team competed in their first 36 hole competition of the fall season on Oct 24th and 25th as they played in the North Texas Interscholastic tournament held at Old Brickyard golf course in Ferris, TX.  For the first time since we started attending that tournament 4 years ago, the girls didn’t have to fight the customary late October cold fronts that tend to blow in and got a gorgeous weekend to play some golf.  And they took advantage with several of the girls posting personal bests on what usually is a fairly tough golf course.  Senior Brielle Ward led the team with an even par 70 on the first day of competition and backed it up with a 2 under par 68 on the second day which was good enough to earn a tie for second place overall in what is considered a very good field.  Junior Kirsten Parker followed her in by breaking her personal scoring record 2 days in a row with an 86 on day one and following it up with an 81 on the second day.  Overall the team finished in 8^th place in the championship division which was stacked with some of the best 6A teams in the metroplex as the competition.  Up next for the girls is the annual Frisco Fall Cup which will be held at Frisco Lakes golf club on Nov 7-8^th where they will try to stake their claim as one of the top teams in FISD.
