Girls golf finishes strong at Regional

On Wednesday and Thursday, April 13&14, the Wakeland girls golf team competed in the region 2 golf tournament at Rockwall golf and Athletic club.  The girls advanced to the regional tournament by placing second in the district tournament at The Bridges golf club.  The first day, we played through some soggy and rainy conditions and it was tough to get started.  The girls slogged through that day to end up in a tie for fifth place at the end of round one shooting a team score of 370.  The second day was quite a bit stronger for the team as they made a push to earn a state trip by shooting a team best score of 353.  We finished alone in 5th place for the tournament, but did make up 10 shots on the spot needed to advance.  But it was too much to overcome as we dug ourselved a bit too big of a hole on the first day of competition.  The girls finished the season strong by making it to the regional tournament and with 3 of the 5 coming back for their senior year next year, we look to make a push for the state tournament again next April.  Kirsten Parker finished out her strong senior spring by shooting 84 in her final tournament round for the Wolverines.
